Mirror Reflection of the Band

This photograph was taken at the Mile Branch Settlement during the Washington Parish Free Fair. The breeze was mild. The sky was blue. Everyone was in a good frame of mind. The cabins at the Mile Branch Settlement were moved from their original locations in Washington parish to their present site. The first cabin was moved into MBS in 1976. To avoid deterioration and to present an educational experience for future generations of the culture of the 1800 and early 1900’s required that these dwellings be relocated to the MBS.

The Washington Parish Fair

With much pleasure, we welcome you to the historical Mile Branch Settlement (MBS) located on the Washington Parish Fairgrounds in Franklinton, LA. The MBS began as a tribute to the pioneering spirit of Washington Parish residents. For the most part, these pioneers were Scotch-Irish, Presbyterian by faith, from the lowlands of Scotland who immigrated to Northern Ireland in the early seventeenth century. Known as Ulster Scots, these hearty pioneers emigrated from Ireland to the British Colonies of North America between 1725 and 1775 with many settling in Pennsylvania. During this time, cultural geographers believe that the Scotch-Irish and German settlers shared a building technique known today as Appalachian Upland Folk Architecture.

Enjoyed The Bogalusa Blues and Heritage Festival

The day was delightful with blues filling the air all day on Saturday. Our after school group shared their life choice that tobacco is not the life for them. The highlight of the display was sixteen pair of shoes to symbolize the sixteen people who die daily in Louisiana from smoking. The presentation for a big, beautiful mum was given away on stage at 4:15.

They will still be surfaced on the homepage and we're also making improvements to Team Pages which can be followed by shoppers. We're working closely with Treasury Team Captains to ensure that the spirit of seller-to-seller collaboration remains alive and well on Etsy. Brittany Williams, Etsy

Keep The Front Page of Etsy

Everyone make at least FIVE treasuries,( make them as you usually would), title every single one "KEEP THE FRONT PAGE!", and Tag each one with "KEEP THE FRONT PAGE" too. Save them as drafts. Do this before noon EASTERN, today. The plan is that everyone launches these treasuries live at exactly 12 NOON on Friday and we bombard Etsy with our message. Everyone lives in different time zones, but the Eastern time zone is where Etsy Admin is located. Here is a link to a time zone converter if you are unsure about what time that will be for you. Be sure to search September 12, 2014 at 12/12pm and choose U.S.A.-NEW YORK-NEW YORK and then choose your location to convert to.

It's Already Football Season

"The Saints will start off the season in Atlanta against their hated rivals the Falcons. I think the season will take its shape with this game. Win this game and they have a chance to start off the year 3-0 with two winnable games to follow. If you ask me, the Saints offense is better than the Falcons defense, and no I'm not being a homer. It's just what I think." By Sharief Ishaq

New Apartment for My Youngest

It was so much fun moving boxes in for my youngest son. He decided to move to Mississippi of all things since as he said, he could live anywhere. Mississippi has more of what he likes. Good food. He says the pizza has more feta here. Pretty furniture. "I found the best coffee table and it will be delivered on Tuesday." Just wait til he meets the people. My husband and I have found the people to be warm, friendly and loving. Welcome to Mississippi, Collin. We love the state, too.

Container To Be Listed

My friend, Shannon, gave me this container for my birthday. The color is bright blue and amazingly the rubber is still in tact. The reason I say amazingly is that the year was 1983. The gift is 31 years old. That was before I was married or before I had children. That was before my husband got a PhD. We were at the lake house with the lake in full view. The candles were lit and the night was young. I opened the gift and loved the color. The deep blue would go with any cottage kitchen or any farmhouse kitchen. I lived in a townhouse at the time and the container looked great there, too. This morning, I cleaned the coffee out and not just any coffee, dark roast Community Coffee. The container is now ready to put on the market. Look for it soon at Rocky Springs Vintage and Art on Etsy and Ebay.

Light Rain

Today's been good The rain fell in light drops Blighting out the sun behind sheets of wet No light to be had in all the land Today's been pretty good Though the rain foretells a usual cleansing Today it only served to brighten my mood Today was a good day And it heartens me to feel the twilight beckon Today was good But the rain serves to make it better And I may go outside to dance In the twilight In the rain

Recent Visit To Natchez Trace

It was so good to be in our favorite place this week. Both boys, my husband and I revisited a place we have loved for twenty five years. Rocky Springs Vintage got her name from here. There were trees down from a recent storm. The highway wasn't as manicured as we remembered from years past. The rocks and the crawfish were all in place. A tree crashed into our favorite waterfall totally demolishing the fall. The vineyard was as beautiful as ever.
